Meet Cooper – a stunning Welsh Springer Spaniel with a brilliant personality and a tail that never stops wagging. I had the absolute pleasure of photographing him during a private session held in his own back garden in Nottinghamshire.
As a professional dog and horse photographer based in Southwell, Notts, I always tailor my shoots to suit each individual dog – and this session with Cooper was a perfect example of how staying close to home can still deliver a gallery full of personality, variety and charm.
With his glossy red-and-white coat, expressive eyes and flowing ears, Cooper is everything you’d expect from this wonderful breed – energetic, affectionate and full of character. He was totally at ease in his familiar surroundings, which made for a relaxed and playful shoot from start to finish.
Many owners ask whether we need to go on a long walk or head to a grand location for a photography session, but Cooper’s shoot shows that this isn’t always necessary.
Beautiful images can be created right at home. A secure garden where your dog feels confident and safe often allows their true personality to shine through.
Cooper spent the session bounding across the lawn, sniffing out interesting smells, chasing his favourite tennis ball and flashing that signature cheeky grin. It gave us a wide range of portraits – from peaceful, soulful headshots to joyful action shots with ears flying and paws mid-air.It’s important to me that each shoot feels stress-free for both pet and owner.
Cooper’s session was a lovely example of how using a simple, familiar space – paired with natural light and a bit of patience – can result in a set of professional images that truly capture your dog’s spirit.
Every dog is different – some thrive outdoors on long walks, while others feel more at ease in their own garden. No matter the setting, I work to bring out what makes your dog special, just like we did with Cooper.
Whether you’re looking for timeless close-ups, full-body portraits or fun images of your dog in full sprint, you don’t need to travel far. Sometimes, the best place for your dog to be photographed is exactly where they feel most at home.
Comment or message me to book your shoot – whether it’s in your garden or out in the countryside, we’ll create a beautiful gallery of your dog to treasure for years to come.
