There’s something timeless about the connection between horse and human – and Emily’s equine session in the New Forest captured that beautifully. Set against the peaceful backdrop of ancient woodland and open heath, this session was a celebration of trust, partnership and calm companionship.
This shoot was particularly significant for me. It was one of the first sessions I undertook under the expert guidance of The Training Barn – a step I took as part of my own professional development journey.
After 36 years as a nurse, I understood the importance of continuing education and lifelong learning. So when I transitioned into equine and dog photography, I actively sought out mentors who could support and challenge me to grow creatively and professionally.
Working with The Training Barn gave me the opportunity to refine my approach, embrace new techniques and receive structured feedback from some of the most respected professionals in the industry.
The session itself flowed beautifully. Emily’s connection with her horse was effortless and warm – a quiet partnership built on years of understanding. From the gentle way she rested her head against his to the light-hearted moments shared in the stable doorway, every frame told a story of mutual respect.
We worked in a range of environments – from shaded stables to wildflower meadows – using natural light and peaceful pauses to create images that feel as calm and grounded as the bond they portray.
As a dog and horse photographer based in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, I’m committed to telling the unique story of every partnership I photograph. I travel throughout the UK to do just that – capturing the small gestures and genuine connections that mean the most.
