Finding the right photographer for your Dog or Equine Photo session.

Have you ever googled Dog or Equine photographers near you and been overwhelmed by the responses. There are probably hundreds of really talented photographers in Nottinghamshire so how do you know which one is for you?

Look for a specialist – Whether you are looking for baby/newborn, a wedding photographer or family session in a studio make sure you book a photographer who has experience in that field. For instance a landscape photographer will able to take stunning images of landscape with a different skill set to those required to do studio based newborn images. The same applies for dog and equine photography, if you are looking to book a professional photo session make sure the photographer you choose has experience in working with dogs and horses. As you know I only photograph dogs and horses and their owners.

Review the photographers portfolios – Investigate the photographers website and social media platforms to look at their style and quality and what captures your attention and whether the images resonate with you. Do you like the style, the posing, the emotional connection and the colour tones. A great photograph tells a story, provokes an emotion and shows a connection between you and your dog/horse. I would describe my style as natural and open that demonstrates a really connection with and personality of their dog and horse. My clients often comment about how relaxed and comfortable the session was which is the key when capturing the bond between you.

Read Reviews – Most photographers now have extensive social media and Google presence and will post testimonials or share reviews. Click here to see what past clients has said about working with me.

Talk with the photographer – Once you’ve found a photographer whose style appeals to you get in touch and arrange a call to have a chat. Make sure that you make a connection with them and you like their personality. A phone or video call gives you a chance to ask initial questions you may have. This initial call gives me an opportunity to hear your ideas for the session and to answer all your questions.

.

Check Availability – Many photographer are booked up moths or even years ahead especially wedding photographers so make sure you check their availability to make sure it fits with your plans. Many photographers will try and accommodate ‘Cherished Memories’ or end of life session even at very short notice.

Value for money – We are currently in challenging times and all photographers understand that budget is really important. whilst it may be tempting to go for a lower priced option this often means that the photographer may lack the skills and experience to deliver the experience you want. Professional dog and equine portrait photography is an investment in memories and precious moments that you don’t want to miss out on especially as the memories become more special over time. When you speak to your photographer make sure you ask them about additional costs for milage and/or additional dogs/horses people. Some photographers like me have payment plans available especially to spread the cost of frames or albums. Personally I am open and upfront with my prices- I have 3 packages that would suit most budgets and no hidden costs. There is no added cost for additional dogs/horses/children/grandparents or friends and for the vast majority of sessions I don’t charge for milage. I do charge an additional £150 when the session is more than 4hrs from Nottinghamshire and requires an overnight stay.

If you think I am the photographer for you then feel free to get in touch and have a chat.
