Minnie and Jelly

After all the rain recently it was a delight to be able to actually do some Dog Photography on the glorious sunshine and today was no exception. For this session I was off to the lovely Lincolnshire countryside, although based in Nottinghamshire I do travel all over and look forward to meeting breeds that I have never come cross before.

Meet Minnie and Jelly who are Boerboels (South African Mastiff), bred originally as livestock guardian these are big dogs with fabulous temperaments.

Im used to being around large guarding breeds as my dog Sheeba is a GSD/Akita coming in at 37kg but Minnie and Jelly made Sheeba looked tiny!

Minnie is the puppy although a lot bigger than a lot of puppies and as such was full of energy, interest and was willing to please throughout the session. With puppies we play lots of games that are linked to the way the owners are training so focus on sit, stay , lay down with treats/toys as a positive reinforcement, along side this I will never ask a dog to stay or hold a position longer than is needed.

Jelly is the mature lady who was slightly less keen on having her photo taken certainly didn’t see the point in running around for me! When your dog is unsettled or simply not into the idea of posing then I work around them from a distance as to not stress them and focus more on the candid type of images.

It was so much fun to spend time with Minnie and Jelly and to meet a breed that I hadn’t photographed before. If you’re looking for some outdoor photographs of you Dog then please contact me here to discuss a futher.
