When I meet new people and talk about Equine Portrait photography, the most common thing I hear is that they don’t like posing in front of the camera so this blog is here to put your mind at ease about posing and how I will guide you to capture that unique connection you have with your horse.
The Walk – Throughout our session together I will ask you and your horse to walk together, be that across a field, down a lane, up a driveway or through the woods, a walk is something that you do reguallrly together and will allw you to relax and feel connected with your Horse. During the walk I will ask you to look certain ways and will be looking for those candid touches to capture stunning memories for you.
Not looking at the camera – Looking directly at the camera can uncomfortable for some people – thankfully your best buddy is there for you! You have your horse to gaze at loveingly or even hid behind until you feel comfortable and confident in the session. This is the perfect opprtunity to just be with your horse and spend some quality time together. Most importunately your session is about keeping things fun and relaxed with lots of cuddles.
3: Catch your breath – The excitment of a equine photo session can sometimes mean that its all passing you by in a bit of a whirlwind. We will take some quite moments which give me the opprtunity to capture beautiful images as you snuggle into your horse, close you take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. At this moment nothing else matters than you and your horse – this connection you’ll feel is all part of the photography experience.
4: What to do with your Hands! – So many of us when we are asked to pose suddenly realise we have hands and have absoltuly no idea what to do with them! Thankfully your horse is there to help you, stroke them, pat them, hold the reins, place an hand under their nose, all these things will come naturally to you as you do them everyday with your horse without thinking. If you feel your hands get a little tight – give them a shake or stretch before we carry on.
Sit or Lean back and relax – during the walk around before we start i will be looking for things for you to sit on, logs, mounting blocks, benches, fences and gates are all fabulous props to help you relax against.
Finally – your equine photsession will be a relaxed fun expereince. We will go at the pace of your horse and be guided by them, we wont force them to do anything they dont wont to do. Instead we can try another pose or go for a little walk to help them relax. Dont worry this is completely normal and is all part of the expereince. This time with your horse is a precious fleeting moment that should be captured and remembered and I cant think of a better way than stunning photographs on the wall of your home.
I hope that this has helped put you mind at ease regarding posing on a equine photo session if you want to have a further chat or to book a session please contact me.
