What Makes Me Unique?
There are many talented photographers out there — so what makes someone the right fit for you and your horse or dog?The answer often lies not just in the photographs themselves, but in the person behind the camera. I bring a unique blend of life experience, care, and creativity that informs everything I do — and I’d love to share a little of that story with you here.
From Nurse to Photographer: A Life of Care
That time taught me so much — not just about people, but about patience, presence, and emotional understanding.
When I decided to pursue photography professionally, I brought that same mindset with me.
Before photography, I worked as a nurse for over 40 years from Nottingham to London via Oxford and Derbyshire.
I understand the importance of creating a calm and caring environment, whether I’m working with a nervous horse or a shy owner. Every shoot is approached with empathy, and a deep respect for the relationships I’m invited to document.

A Photographer Who Understands Animals
Horses and dogs are incredibly sensitive beings.
My sessions are built around giving them — and you — the time and space to feel at ease. I work in a natural, relaxed way using gentle cues and observation to capture genuine emotion, not forced poses.
Every animal is different. Some are bold and curious. Others are quiet and reserved.
I adapt to each situation, drawing on experience and instinct to create images that feel truly personal and real.
A Style That Reflects Your Story
IMy photographic style is warm, timeless, and rooted in natural light. Inspired by fine art and classic film tones, I aim to create imagery that not only documents a moment but tells your story in a way that will still feel meaningful decades from now.
Whether you’re booking a session to celebrate a milestone, remember a companion, or simply capture the everyday bond you share, I bring a sensitivity and personal touch that clients often say makes all the difference.
“Absolutely fantastic guy, was so patient and understanding of my dogs needs. Really enjoyed the photo shoot, to then waiting for the gallery to be uploaded and it was so hard to choose my favourite as they were all fantastic. Would highly recommend Jim and his services” – Keiran
“I cannot thank Jim enough for his wonderful photographs. He managed to capture the bond between us and our two horses perfectly. The framed pictures are up throughout our house and always manage to put a smile on our faces. He’s also a great guy and true animal person who helped us all relax to capture natural looking photos. Thank you Jim, we will be back for more in the future!” – Rick
Lifelong Learning and Professional Growth
Even after decades in nursing, I never stopped learning. That same belief in professional development drives me now — I’ve trained with respected mentors like The Training Barn and Caro Dell and continually invest in refining both my craft and the client experience.
Every detail matters — from how I pack my camera bag to how I greet you at the gate.
