In previous blogs youve read about what happens on an Equine or dog photosession, about what to wear for a equine protrait photo session and how to prepare, this blogs is setting out to address the why – Why book a photosession with your Horse or Dog and whats stopping you.
As a professional dog and equine photographer its my job to take pictures of you and your loved four legged family and as such if you have a dog or a horse (or both) I would love you to book a session with me, or another professional photographer if Im not the right photographer for you – I want you to have beautful art work on your walls to look aabck on with fondenss rembmer the time you spent with your best buddy.
I have never had a client regret booking a session although Ive met lots of people who wish they had had one.
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” -Karl Lagerfeld
Now is not a good time! Simply there is no other time than now… its painful to think about, especially with our 13yr old rescue dog and 19yr gelding, that we don’t know how long we’ve got with these wonderful companions. I find it so sad when talking to people at shows who regret having a professional photosession done when they had the chance. My job is to guide you through every step of the process from the initial call to choosing the art work for your home and to produce a set of images that you will cherish forever.
Ive got hundreds of pictures of me and my horse/dog on my phone! Mobile phones give use the ability to hundreds if not thousands of snaps – but when was the last time you sat and looked at them really. A professional photographer will bring their experience to setting up and managing a shot, to use the available light to perfect enhance an image, to understand the way a background works in an image and to be able to advise you on all aspects of a photo session. Add to the skilss in editing to make your images truely stand out and then using professional printers and framers to turn you image into wall art for you home. . A professional dog or equine photo session isn’t simply someone calling your name, asking you to stare into the camera and smile for a quick iPhone snap – its a curated experience that will allow you to look back and cherish those moments forever.
My dog or horse is naughty and wont tolerate their picture being taken, my yard isn’t very pretty, ive got no where to walk my dog, the weather is rubbish… the list goes on! These are the many and varied things Ive heard that have stopped people from booking a session. Ive gt lots of tricks and distraction to help you and your dog/horse relax and enjoy the session to allow those unique moments to come through. Ive had clients who at the start of the session feel incredibly self conscious and unnatural walk like cat walk models by the end. Ive had dogs who didnt want anything to do with me become my best friend by the end of a session (a pocket full of treats always helps). Ive done sessions in -4 and mid summer. With all these felxability and patience is the key as is building a strong connection with you and a positive relationship with your horse/dog. Remember safety is key and if you or i think that your dog/horse is stress or uncomfortable doing something we’ve asked we move on or at worst rearrange the session. With the weather again if its raining or too hot we will rearrange to another day- no problem is insurmountable.
Its too expensive – let talk about the elephant in the room cost. Photographers know that we are currently in tough times financially, so booking a photsession may not be the top of the priority list. Dog and Equine portrait sessions are a fabulous gift for birthdays or Christmas so you could drop the hint to your loved ones that this would be the perfect present. Alternatively many photographer offer payment plans to spread the cost of the session or products. My prices start from £100 for a session (see my website for more details) that you can always share with a friend at the yeard or a dog walking friend!
It’s a day date for you & your horse/dog. When was the last time you were really present with you best buddy with out the pressure of schooling/competing your horse or walking your dog because you have to. This is a chance for you to be togethert, perhaps dress up alittle and spend some quality time together, and get loads of cuddles while we are at! What better time is there than the time you spend with them.
You deserve a it! – the last feew years have been tough to say the least, booking a session gives you somthing to look foward to and prepare for in order to capture some fabuous memeories of you and your dog/horse together
I hope this has hellped you stop thinking about all the reason why you should book a dog or Equine photosession and move to thinking why you should book one. if you want any more information you can contact me here or follow me of facebook or instagram.
